Idea: Traffic Flow

John Barney about 3 years ago

Please fix the light timing on East/West Bay Dr. It seems as though they are based on a camera system that judges volume, which I believe could be improved upon. In my morning commute I typically hit 7 of the 11 traffic lights from my house to 19 via East Bay. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes to do that 5 mile commute. Timing the lights would keep traffic flow moving and reduce fuel waste at all the red lights. Major city all over this country time their lights to keep the flow moving and it is very possible here. All in all, Largo is a great city to live in. Thank you.

Totally agree. I take East Bay everyday and get very frustrated at how often I hit the red lights. I am originally from Denver and had to take a busy city street to get to work. Rarely did I have to stop at more than a couple of the lights going to or from work. Here, its almost every single one of them which, like you stated, wastes gas and time. I believe it would be a reasonable request to ask to have someone review this idea and implement it.

100% agree!!! In the afternoons during "rush hour" too it's a traffic log jam between US 19 and Belcher heading West, after that it flows normally. It is not traffic congestion, it is the timing of lights - at times only allowing 2 cars through due to back up of cars stuck at next light.

Great feedback! Light timing is actually managed by Pinellas County's Public Works and Transportation Department. There are two way you can report issues. You can call (727) 464-8926 or report it online through the link below. Hope this helps.
